It gives you insight into the struggles, successes, and the process of the world’s greatest.

The best of war, business, & sport. Those that beat the naysayers and overcame the odds. Those that crafted a lifestyle of success.

Biographies are written about the best of the best. They are immortal.

I started to read more biographies. [Read more…]

An Evening Dedicated to Your Brain

September 27, 2018 by Tony Francisco Leave a Comment

I recently attended an event in Hollywood with Jim Kwik of Kwik Brain, aptly called an evening dedicated to your brain.

Jim suffered from an injury growing up and was known as “the boy with the broken brain,” but has since conquered his limitations through reading and systematic thinking regarding the brain’s ability to learn and overcome.

He has been called upon by industry giants like Zappos, Nike, and Google to help increase the reading, thinking, and learning capabilities of their employees, which gives him credibility with some of the world’s highest performers.

The event was held in a dimly lit, hippie-ish Yoga studio, but was far from translucent. [Read more…]

Neuroplasticity & Cognitive Enhancement

December 1, 2017 by Tony Francisco Leave a Comment

Note- Mostly we write actionable pieces that are short form. Sometimes the allure of science makes us delve deeper.

The brain has the ability to change itself through neuronal rewiring in response to the needs and requirements of the body.

Countless studies have been done in which scientist have learned that the brain is much more plastic than previously thought. This concept contrasts the traditional thinking of the brain as an unchangeable “machine” in which its structures correspond to specific tasks. The traditional thinking behind this structural design is based on motor brain maps that are topographical, where areas in the brain functionally parallel adjacent parts of the body.

However, work from Norman Doidge in his book, The Brain That Changes Itself, proves this to be inaccurate. We can change the structures of our brain through focused thinking and effort.

Surely on of the most extraordinary discoveries of the twentieth century: Scientist showed that thinking, learning, and acting can turn our genes on or off, thus shaping our brain anatomy and behavior. – Norman Doidge
